First Week of Kindergarten Celebration

After the first full week of kindergarten, we had a great party to celebrate! The kids have learned so much already in just 7 days of kindergarten! The popcorn and juice snack was a big hit. Thank you for the wonderful presents for our classroom- the kids are so excited to use all of our new supplies- they will get a lot of use this year!

Solar Eclipse

We had a very special day today learning about the solar eclipse! We made a book about the eclipse and read all about what happens during an eclipse. We also watched a movie about the eclipse. We even made fun eclipse headbands to wear! The PM class got to enjoy watching the solar eclipse together on our kindergarten patio this afternoon. We could't believe how neat it was! What a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Kindergarten Centers

Each day in kindergarten the students have time where they visit several centers in our classroom. Some of the centers are play based (like the blocks center, puppet center, and kitchen center) and some have a more academic focus and give the students a chance to practice reading and writing skills we have learned in class (like the writing center, library center, alphabet center, and iPad center). The kids in our class have done a great job so far during center time! Soon I will start seeing reading groups while the students are working at their centers, and each group will get individualized instruction at their level.

First Day of A.M. Kindergarten

Wow! We had such a great first day of A.M. Kindergarten! We colored pictures, played games, read stories, had recess, went to P.E. class, and learned all about the rules and routines in our kindergarten classroom.

Our favorite part of the morning was our gingerbread hunt! We read the book: The Gingerbread Man. Then we went on a gingerbread hunt all over the school to find our special gingerbread cookie snack! The gingerbread man left us lots of clues to follow! As we toured the school on our gingerbread hunt, we met lots of people, including: our secretary, principal, counselor, nurse, librarian, music teacher, art teacher, and P.E. teachers.

All of the students did such a wonderful job today at school! We are going to have a great year together!
